Abstract

The emergence of generative artificial intelligence is profoundly transforming the processes of information searching, analysis, and knowledge production in fields such as documentation, communication, and academic research. In this interview, Dr. Lluís Codina reflects on the scope of this technological shift, comparing it to the historical impact of Google while emphasizing its greater conceptual and operational depth. Throughout the conversation, topics such as the evolution of search engines, the role of search engine optimization within generative systems, the risks associated with AI reliability, and the need to maintain a critical perspective toward the automation of cognitive tasks are discussed. The interview also addresses the concept of “cognitive debt,” understood as the gradual loss of skills resulting from excessive intellectual delegation to automated systems. In addition, the interviewee examines the degree of preparedness among documentation and communication professionals to integrate these technologies into their daily workflows, highlighting the persistence of a significant training gap. Finally, he offers a prospective vision of the relationship between artificial intelligence and knowledge creation, arguing that these tools will play a central role in all stages of research and analytical processes, provided they are accompanied by rigorous verification protocols and sound academic practices.
